Permanent Hair Removal
IPL is the first Photoepilation technology proven to treat unwanted pigmented hair safely on any skin type from very light to very dark skin. It offers a gentle, non-invasive, long lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other body area.
The most common and affordable methods of hair removal have traditionally been shaving, depilatory creams, waxing and electrolysis – performed either at home or in beauty centres. Now a safe and permanent solution is available in the form of Intense Pulse Light (IPL).
How does it work?
IPL works on the principle of selective light and heat. The energy level is adjusted prior to the treatment based on the skin type and hair colour to ensure maximum safety and efficiency of the skin matrix.
How is the treatment performed?
Flashes of broad-spectrum light from the IPL hand piece are applied to the target area. The light selectively targets the melanin in the hair, elevating the temperature of the hair shaft, which increases the hair follicle temperature needed to damage the hair bulb, the surrounding blood supply, and stem cells responsible for hair growth.
The result is long-term hair removal for hair-free skin. Only hair in the active growing phase of the hair cycle will be damaged, so each treatment will effectively destroy about 20% of the target hair. As a result of this, a series of 6 to 8 treatments are needed, with a minimum time of 2 months apart, to achieve permanent hair reduction.
What to expect
The hair in the treated area will appear to continue to grow over a two-week period as it’s is being pushed out of the skin; you will then have a hair free period of an average of 2 to 3 weeks.
Side effects are rare. Slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site may be experienced, but this typically goes away within hours.
